A QUITTR alternative that needs no account

QUITTR is the biggest app in this category and cannot be used without an account. Here is what it does well, where IronWill differs, and how to choose between them.

Checked against 4 sources on 30 October 2026.

Claims about other apps were last checked in those apps on 30 October 2026. Apps change — if something here is out of date, tell us.

Update, 30 October 2026. QUITTR’s App Store listing no longer resolves. Apple’s public lookup API returned no result for it in all six storefronts we checked — US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany and France — and the listing page returns a 404. We could not find a Play listing under that publisher either.

Separately, 404 Media reported that a misconfigured Firebase database had left intimate user data from the app readable — ages, self-reported masturbation frequency, viewing history — and that researchers had warned the company for months. Cybernews put the scale at around 600,000 users, while QUITTR’s own breach notification said 0.1% of users were affected.

We are not telling you the listing was removed because of the exposure. We found nothing published that links the two, and a withdrawal, a move or an acquisition would look identical from outside. Both facts are here because either one matters if you were about to install it; neither needs the other.

The rest of this page is kept as written, with QUITTR’s figures as they stood on 16 September 2026. They describe a listing that can no longer be re-read.

IronWill is the closest alternative to QUITTR, and the clearest difference is what each one asks for before you start: QUITTR cannot be used without an account at all, and IronWill needs no account, no email and no sign-up. Both are free to download, both are streak trackers with a blocker attached, both now put that blocker behind a subscription, and QUITTR is by a very large margin the more established of the two.

We make IronWill, so here is the check on that: every QUITTR fact below was either read from Apple’s public listing data on 16 September 2026 or confirmed by someone here inside the app on 15 September 2026. Anything we have not verified is marked as unverified rather than filled in with a guess, and there are several of those.

QUITTR’s store figures were read on 16 September 2026, when its listing still resolved; IronWill’s were read on 30 October 2026. Capability rows were checked inside both apps on 15 September 2026. Ratings move daily and apps change their paywalls, so treat this as a snapshot rather than a permanent fact.

Where QUITTR is genuinely better

It was enormous, and that is not nothing. 33,496 App Store ratings at 4.72 when we last read the listing, against IronWill’s four. Thousands of people used QUITTR for long enough to rate it, and nobody can say that about IronWill yet. On the only evidence either of us could point to, QUITTR was the app most people had stuck with — which is worth knowing even now that you cannot install it from the App Store, because it is the thing IronWill has not earned.

It has a community inside the app. QUITTR has a feed; IronWill does not. For a lot of people the thing that sustains a streak is other people being visibly in it too, and if that describes you, this difference matters more than any feature comparison below. IronWill links out to a Telegram group, which is not the same thing and we will not pretend it is.

Where IronWill differs

Both paywall the blocker now, and this page used to say otherwise. Until October 2026 IronWill’s blocker ran on a three-day trial you unlocked by watching an ad, and that claim led this article. It is no longer true: the blocker is a Pro feature in both apps. We have rewritten the page rather than leave the old version up, because a comparison that quietly keeps a win it has lost is worth nothing to the person reading it.

There is no account. QUITTR requires one; IronWill does not ask for an email and has no sign-up step. Given what these apps store — what you logged, when you relapsed, what set it off — an app with no account has no profile to breach. Your streaks, check-ins and journal entries stay on your device, and the website filter decides what to block locally, so your browsing is never uploaded. Three things do leave the phone and we will name them: anonymous crash and usage reporting, ad requests while you are on the free tier, and the text of an AI coach conversation, which has to reach Google to generate a reply.

It runs on older iPhones. QUITTR requires iOS 17. IronWill needs 16.6. If your phone is a few years old, that alone may decide it.

It counts what you won, not just what you lost. A pure day counter resets to zero on a relapse, which is precisely the moment people delete the app. IronWill also keeps a tally of urges you rode out, and that number never resets. We have not verified whether QUITTR does anything equivalent, so this is a statement about IronWill rather than a claim about QUITTR.

The AI coach is free on your first day. Three messages, no payment, and it opens in urge mode straight from the home screen — after that day it is part of Pro. Whether QUITTR has a comparable feature, we have not verified.

What we have not checked

Being straight about the gaps, because a comparison that claims to know everything about a rival is a comparison that made things up. As of 15 September 2026, nobody here has verified whether QUITTR has an AI coach, whether it counts resisted urges, or how its gamified progression works. Those cells are blank on our comparison page and they stay blank until someone opens the app and checks. If you use QUITTR and we have something wrong, tell us and we will fix it.

How to choose

Pick QUITTR if you want the established app with the largest community inside it, you are on iOS 17 or later, and making an account is not an obstacle.

Pick IronWill if you would rather not hand over an email at all, you would rather nothing about you sat on someone’s server, you are on an older iPhone, or you want the count of urges beaten rather than only the count of days survived. Neither app will block a site for you unpaid, so that is no longer the thing to decide on.

Or install both — they are both free to download, and the one you still have in a month is the one that was right.
